Thrifty Thursday

I gave up shopping for Lent but here are some lovelies that I haven't "officially" shared yet.   xoxo, MJ

Vintage paper from a few year's back. You might notice that the present is addressed to us....a friend gave us a pitcher that she no longer needed near Christmastime. I decided to wrap it up to make our tree a little happier.
Sewing inspiration that I picked up at our library's annual sale.
It was part of the "Everything You Can Fit in a Paper Bag" sale :)
Neither of us was born in 1978 but who cares?

Loves on a Thursday

I love this book that I bought for New Year's.
I have developed a meringue obsession.
This chocolate one looks delicious.
Absolutely adorable!
These were my pride and joy from earlier in January.
Linking up with Imprintalish and Paisley Boulevard for Loves on a Thursday.   xoxo, Kat and MJ

Too Cool For School

So, as I posted earlier, I have a new career.  Now that I am a personal assistant/entrepreneur who can work from home part-time, I am free, free, FREE from the binding binds of office wear.

From 2003 to 2009, I worked in a warehouse and my workwear was limited to jeans and teeshirts.  From 2009 to early 2013, it was skirts and dresses.

Now, I'm excited to enter the best of both worlds.  Today was my first office-free weekday, and as I headed out to run some errands, I had a distinct First-Day-of-School sensation.  To commemorate it, I tried to re-create all those pictures our parents took of us on the first day of school (minus the bus this time, thank heavens...)

Mom's vintage bracelet

Coming Back to Life

Kat here.  I very recently made the biggest career change of my life.  It's an entire lifestyle change.  You'll be seeing a lot  more of me on the blog now!  And the first post of my new life is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, from their last studio album, released in 1994, The Division Bell.

Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of lifeand the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight..into the shining sun

I sent my dad a letter to let him know and he sent me this card back.  Usually, he is NOT a man of few words, but this summed it up:

My dad and I correspond a lot by paper mail.  Look forward to my upcoming segments, "Letters From Dad."

Vintage Video Friday

The house and vibe of this video is perfect. I'm constantly working to achieve a home that's retro cool with equal parts of indoor and outdoor living. And the song ain't bad either. Cyndi made one album that was perfect, fell in love with a dude she met on a video shoot and retired from music. Not a bad way to go out on top. I hope she's doing well :)

Just a Little Silliness

Opened up the fridge the other morning
There was Mr. Pickle
What a way to start the day :-)

Nudie, Nudie, Nudie

Our bathroom (inspired by Pinterest)
My very first full-time job after college was teaching a pre-school class of twenty-three 4 and 5 year-olds. One day a little girl was chanting to herself "nudie, nudie, nudie". I asked her "do you know what that word means?" "It means you don't have any clothes on." was her nearly blunt answer. And that's when I learned: the kiddo is always gonna have a better answer than you :)    xoxo, MJ

Hump Day Inspiration

With it being a week past Valentine's Day, I thought it might be time to touch on the tougher side of love.

Kris Kristofferson is absolutely the sexiest man to ever enter the world of country music. Dang that lucky Rita Coolidge.

Sammi Smith shows off heartache like nobody's business. And let's remember, she's a woman singing this song in the '70's which takes some balls. But I'm not sure why she has to sing it while sitting on hay bales.

Johnny and June bring some love to the lust. Fyi, Sammi Smith's son, Waylon Payne, plays Jerry Lee Lewis in Walk the Line, the movie about Johnny and June. No, I didn't have to google those facts (I just love music a bit too much).

A modern day version of a song about something that's as old as time. Norah's not my girl usually (probably because I'm jealous of her delicate beauty and piano playing skills) but I'm glad she brought this song back for bit.

Top Shelf

A peek at the top shelf of my bedroom's built-in bookshelf.
Vintage books. Some inspirational and some a little bit naughty.
Vintage ballerinas from my grandmother (yes, one is missing a hand due to a moving accident),
a souvenir harmonica from a concert (I caught it from the front row....it was tossed right to me)
and a drumstick (sadly, no story there).

Sunday in the Shop

Find this gorgeous, hand-crafted collage here. Your kitchen will thank you and so will WetDesert. xoxo, MJ

Images were collected from about a billion secondhand magazines.
The cupboard door was rescued from our garage which is actually a glorified shed.
I left the handle on the door for a little bit of extra charm.
I love the picture of the Mexican corn on the cob in the upper lefthand corner.
I am a tad embarrassed to admit that the cookie quote is from Paula Deen but not
so embarrassed as to leave it off of the piece.

Be Mine

MJ just pointed out that for my Valentine's day dinner, I enjoyed one of those little single-serve plastic bottles of wine and some ramen noodles.  It is what it is, man...

We Love You

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

Hump Day Inspiration

You can check out the links to these gorgeous photos and more here.  xoxo, MJ

eye make-up = sexy
Much love for the golden blond beard.
lace

Nothing is cuter than seeing a boy being completely normal. Tying their shoes, eating cereal,
talking to their mom. You see a guy do that and before you know it; you're in LOVE.
It's my goal to look like this in my underwear. Particularly, the fishnets.
I have no words. Just desires.....

My Blue Valentine

My sister-in-law, Katherine, gave me a gigantic book of scrapbook paper for Christmas (something I'd never get for myself but totally love). Now, I can make as many paper crafty decorations as my little heart desires. First up, my blue valentine heart and ribbon streamers.  xoxo, MJ
