Vintage Video Friday

This video represents a huge part of a special time in my life. No, not the time of one night stands...that would be a very different blog post! The time when the music that I loved and real life started to become one.

Leeann's style in this video is breath-taking. She was a major country talent taking a chance and going retro. The leading man for this video is Jack Ingram, a Texas country artist at the time. Over the past few years, Leeann has become a bit less in the spotlight while Jack has left the "Texas" style for Nashville at times. But in about 2005, it was the perfect pairing of the female singer-style that I adored, a man who's attitude I loved and a new place, Texas, that was full of intrigue.

Over the next 4 years, music (its style, its location, its breath, its everything) began to play a bigger and bigger part of my life. Eventually, I'd meet Jack. I'd move to Texas and I'd think that music could save me.

But then, it got fuzzy. Real life and real work in this beautiful new land didn't quite fit. I knew I'd never return to Iowa but life wasn't perfect. I was starting to feel more like William Miller's mom in Almost Famous than Penny Lane. Everything got too heavy. I had to start over. Again. So tomorrow, I head out to see Jack Ingram at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX: my adopted hometown. Second chances at a second act.

Who's gonna love me tonight?

Contemplative rock + roll

I understand that all I need to do is be the body of rock + roll. Rock + roll has limitless opportunities, access to limitless resources, limitless possibilities.  Limitless creativity, limitless ideas, limitless ways to live in wild abundance.  But it does not have a body, does not have the fingers to type on a keyboard, does not have a voice to make the call, does not have a body to dress.  Rock + roll does not have a truck to drive the miles or ears to hear its own music.  But I do.  The rest is pure rock + roll.

Clapboard Country Churches

Clapboard churches in country music videos are a guilty pleasure of mine.

The lack of air conditioning never affects anyone's sense of fashion.

And if there's no church, there's certainly a field to frolick in.

Sunday mornin' never looked so good.

Vintage Video Friday

The early 2000's were a special time in Country Music. CMT still played videos. Kenny Chesney had just discovered puka shells while cutting the sleeves off of all of his t-shirts. And I was living some groupie dreams.

Times has changed. CMT has some of the worst programming known to man. My groupie dreams didn't turn out quite as I'd hoped. But Kenny still refuses to wear sleeves and I take that as a sign that good things are on the horizon.   xoxo, MJ

Vintage Grace

Technically, I have shared these pictures before but I believe it was on my second blog post. I figured it was okay to re-introduce these thrifts to the world. xo, MJ

Vintage Grace Linvingston Hill books that I "thrifted" from my mom who had thrifted them from various stores. These were her duplicates that I got :)

The story is great but the cover art is even better!!!

Kat's Image Icon: Drea de Matteo

I've loved Drea's style since I saw a picture of her in a magazine in the dentist's office 10 years ago.  She's such a badass and yet so distinctly female without having to be overly feminine.
