Hello Bellamy Brothers, Farewell Antone's

In MJ's ongoing quest to see 80s country stars, she got us tickets to see the Bellamy Brothers at Antone's at 5th and Lavaca in Austin.  Of course I was really glad she did, especially because this may be the last show we ever attend at this Antone's location before their upcoming move.

We actually got to the venue nice and early this time.  I was glad to have that pre-show time to soak up the atmosphere and remember all the shows we went to here, both good and bad.  I was feeling very nostalgic.

I pretty much only knew Redneck Girl, Love Flow and Old Hippie, but MJ was singing along with most of the songs.  She was so happy!  They put on a good show.

Hump Day Inspiration

With it being a week past Valentine's Day, I thought it might be time to touch on the tougher side of love.

Kris Kristofferson is absolutely the sexiest man to ever enter the world of country music. Dang that lucky Rita Coolidge.

Sammi Smith shows off heartache like nobody's business. And let's remember, she's a woman singing this song in the '70's which takes some balls. But I'm not sure why she has to sing it while sitting on hay bales.

Johnny and June bring some love to the lust. Fyi, Sammi Smith's son, Waylon Payne, plays Jerry Lee Lewis in Walk the Line, the movie about Johnny and June. No, I didn't have to google those facts (I just love music a bit too much).

A modern day version of a song about something that's as old as time. Norah's not my girl usually (probably because I'm jealous of her delicate beauty and piano playing skills) but I'm glad she brought this song back for bit.

MJ's Style Icon: Jessi Colter

She may not be as well known as Tammy or Loretta but Jessi Colter,
she was bombshell gorgeous and talented to boot.
Off-the-shoulder lace dress. She makes it look like
anyone could wear this outfit when in reality hardly anyone can.
More bare shoulders AND a giant flower choker....AND some dude named Waylon.
1970's Outlaw +  Little House on the Prairie = Heaven 4 MJ
I like it when both the husband and the wife decide that buttoning their shirts is optional.
A dress bodice made out of feathers. Ridiculously brilliant.
Damn good company to keep.
Sounding as beautiful as she looks. Definitely an icon.
