Kat's week. I remember when this song came out in 2004. I have to admit this is a little more poppy that I usually take my country but I had my alarm set to this country station, KHAK, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At 5:15am when I had to drag my ass out of bed in those days (did I mention I'm self-employed now?) I really appreciated the get-up-n-go in the guitar part. Maybe I enjoyed it extra 'cause I heard it first when I was half asleep/delusionally tired.

Drinky Drink
Orange juice, Diet Ginger Ale (MJ likes diet) and a tall glass of ice
A bit of ginger ale on the bottom
Orange juice just past half
Fill it to the top with ginger ale. Watch it fizz.
This concoction has probably been made a thousand times over but it tastes like a dreamsicle and is absolutely delicious. And it's the new favorite treat in the WetDesert household. If you want, you can certainly add vodka or replace the OJ with cranberry juice. Either way, you're gonna love it. Drink up!

Adios, Cheapo's
Cheapo's on Lamar in Austin was our favorite record store. It was just a warehouse with CDs and LPs, new and used but mostly used, nothing fancy. CDs were separated by genre and alphabetically, except for my favorite section to dig through: CD singles and full albums that just had cardboard sleeves instead of jewel cases. Those were all just thrown together. Over the 4 years we shopped there, we found a few advance copies, sometimes before the album was even released.
I somehow really thought we'd meet the loves of our lives there, that one day they'd come walking in the door at 10pm on a Friday night when we were there. This never panned out quite like I planned, although it DID look like a large percentage of the few men we saw there could have used a girlfriend...
Anyway, tragically but not surprisingly, Cheapo's finally closed its doors at the end of December. These paintings, mostly done in spray paint, covered the outside of the building. I have no idea what the plans for the building are, but I was glad to get a few snapshots before it gets remodeled.

Vintage Video Friday - a little early
Kat here. I liked it when B.W. Stevenson did it; I liked it when Brooks and Dunn did it.
So I did a little trusty Wikipedia research and found that a band called the Gear Daddies also released a version of it on their 1992 album, Can't Have Nothin' Nice. For those of you who don't know, the Gear Daddies are a rock band originally from Austin...Austin, Minnesota, that is. Interestingly, I grew up only about an hour and 15 minutes away from Austin, Minnesota and now live 45 minutes from Austin, Texas.
I couldn't seem to find a recording of the Gear Daddies version online but if anyone else can find one, let me know!
